Phuket is Asia’s most popular beach destination, situated in the Andaman Sea in the southwest of Thailand; it is famed for its sparkling turquoise water, jungle-topped mountains and seemingly never-ending white sandy beaches.
Dubbed the ‘pearl of the Andaman’, Phuket is the largest island in the country and, at 49km long, you rarely feel like you are surrounded by water.
Visible from most of the south is Phuket’s Big Buddha, which sits on top of the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata and, at 45 metres tall, it is one of the island’s most important landmarks. The island is also home to Thailand’s second busiest international airport, making visiting the rest of the country incredibly easy.
Patong, on the west coast of Phuket, is the island’s biggest town and busiest beach and has become most famous for its nightlife – which lives up to the wilder side of the country’s reputation.
But the beauty of this island is that it offers the best of both worlds, with a laid back and easygoing way of life alongside its bustling and vibrant nightlife.
Phuket is one of Thailand’s more luxurious islands, and is home to many high-end seaside resorts, including the upmarket Hat Surin and Ao Bang Thao.
Hat Surin is known as ‘Millionaire’s Row’ due to the million pound properties that dominate the prime spots on the hills overlooking the Andaman Sea. The most expensive of which is a cliff-top dwelling that comes with a $7 million pricetag.
Luxury boutique development Kata Rocks Phuket has announced that it would be formally opening on 28 November 2014, two years after it unveiled its first completed Sky Villa.
Lifestyle developer The Attitude Club has launched its latest villa-style condominium project near Nai Harm Beach in Phuket targeting holiday home investors.
Thailand’s current political crisis has been surprisingly beneficial to foreign sales of luxury properties as the baht gradually depreciates, according to real estate analysts.
The most exclusive apartments are located within gated, serviced developments either overlooking or close to the island’s best beaches.
Properties in Phuket are being snapped up by Russian and Chinese buyers, reported Thailand Business News.
According to Phuket property firm Tropical Homes Real Estates, 2011 saw a significant increase in enquiries with respect to both sales and rentals on the Andaman isle.
