Updown Court - The UK's most expensive private residence
October 28, 2009 - United Kingdom

Larger in area than both the royal residences of Hampton Court Palace or Buckingham Palace, this estate symbolises the grand and imposing presence of the Great Houses of England, yet employs 21st century technology to provide a state-of-the-art living environment.

The sumptuous facilities of this jaw-dropping property include five swimming pools, a heated marble driveway, a private cinema, bowling alley, indoor squash court, all weather floodlit tennis court, and stabling for five horses. There is also a helipad for private landings and underground garaging for eight limousines.

The ground floor of the main house, surrounded by wide marble terraces, provides access to the gardens and incorporates a grand hallway, a sunken reception area, as well as bar and dining areas which lead to the East and West Wings.

The East Wing holds the Master-bedroom Suite consisting of a sitting area, bedroom and bathroom, a limed oak corridor, direct access to the East Wing pool balcony and the glass lift to the pool area. There are two powder rooms, conference room and library/reading room.

The West Wing includes a cherry panelled office, open plan breakfast room, kitchen, private sitting room, two further powder rooms and the banqueting hall. There is access to the West Wing pool, which is surrounded by marble pillars and which includes a beauty salon, sauna and dressing rooms.

Updown Court dominates its formal setting amid 58 sprawling acres of landscaped grounds, formal gardens and peaceful woodland, yet is only a short drive from London and within easy reach of connections to the coast, main road and rail links, and London Heathrow airport.
