The Erd-Hollí¤ndermí¼hle with the wind rose, as it is known, was built as early as 1863. And for more than 100 years - until 1971 - the miller still grinded his grain here in the traditional way.
This was followed by the next "stage of life" - new times dawned: "Olga" was converted into a cosy country house by two Hamburg families. For the families - and especially for the children - the dream of a very special holiday home came alive here. And today, about 45 years later, "Olga" shines again in new splendour.
The current owner has saved the cultural monument with a great deal of love for detail and with the joint support of the monument office, the mill association and many energetic craftsmen and neighbours. But not only the interior had to be completed, also the outer appearance. Apart from the wings, which could be preserved as originals, the cap with compass rose had to be made to measure. Except for a small, historical Detail: seven boards of the old cap could be saved and built in. A little anecdote that makes a pure building something special.
The tour through the historical mill feels like a journey back in time. Equipped with partially preserved technology, such as the grain funnel, the old writing desk of the miller, the heavy beams of the mill construction or the open fireplace for which a mill wheel serves as a porch ... all these details bear witness to the great past of the rooms and their stories. Also in the upper part of the mill there are still various machine constructions - you can rarely live more rustically. And everything that makes today's life so pleasant (electricity, water, heating and media) is hidden discreetly behind historical walls. For over a year, the building was renovated, researched and reconstructed in order to kiss "Olga" awake from her slumber.
Now she rests in her old splendour on the miller's hill and looks forward to new life and new tasks. For romantics and country air lovers ... but also as wedding location "Olga" would make a perfect figure. With over 64,000 overnight stays per year, the region around Windbergen is a popular holiday destination...
History lives here, a very special atmosphere welcomes you here.
