Historic Rustic Farmhouse on the Swedish Söderslätt
Rustic Farmhouse, with roots dating back to the time when Skåne was Danish, is located a few kilometers from the southern coast's beaches in Äspö. The fine timber framing in a classic red hue creates a beautiful palette together with the garden's fantastic greenery. Next to the farmhouse stands the old, beautiful church, and on the opposite side, the large plot extends with an established and mature garden that brings to mind larger English estates with various rooms and sections. Open spaces meet boundaries, and to the west, the location opens up to beautiful sunsets over the Skåne landscape.


A few kilometers northeast of Smygehamn lies the small village of Äspö. The adjacent church has origins dating back to the 13th century, and Rustic Farmhouse has been mentioned since the 17th century and onwards. After the Scanian War, when the Danes sought to reclaim coveted Skåne, the Swedish king further fortified the region by deploying cavalry, riders, and weapons at several strategic locations. Rustic Farmhouse in Äspö was one of the chosen locations. Nowadays, the atmosphere is much more peaceful, and tranquility reigns on the property. A gravel driveway and beautiful gates lead to the courtyard. The buildings are now interconnected to form a U-shaped residence, primarily spread across the first floor. Through the entrance, you enter a hall and then a spacious living room with a charming brick floor and a warming fireplace. The room is flooded with light from multiple directions, and the windows are beautifully set within the rustic, thick outer walls. Nearby, you'll find the dining room, tastefully decorated by the owner with fabrics from Pierre Frey, and the wall mirrors are painted using Tromphe l’oeil technique. This tasteful interior design runs as a common thread throughout the entire residence, with variations from room to room but an overall well-thought-out and pleasant atmosphere. Continuing through the house, you'll come to the breakfast room, conveniently located directly adjacent to the kitchen. The kitchen features cabinetry from Smedstorp and is highly efficient. There's also a separate pantry for storage and wine storage by the old oven, which is no longer in use. The residence continues with a guest WC, shower, and laundry facilities, as well as a guest room. At the far end of the gable, there's a sitting room that opens up to a loft with access to both the garden and the courtyard.
