Lucky Coin Building Under Construction in China
February 23, 2012 - Guangdong
Guangdong Plastics Exchange is constructing an innovative civil engineering structure in the shape of 'Luck Coin' at Guangzhou, China near the Pearl River.
The futuristic building, inspired by the ancient Chinese imperial jade disks, is designed by architect Joseph di Pasquale, AM project Milan.
Far from being just another boxy building, this unique, 1 billion yuan (US$159 million) edifice is patterned after objects the Cantonese traditionally associate with luck and good fortune.
When completed - allegedly by the end of 2012 - the cylindrical building will reach 138m in height with a 47m-diameter hole in the centre.
