Buy your own Japanese island
December 17, 2009 - Hiroshima
Ever thought about owning your very own Japanese island? Now's your chance.
The Chugoku Local Finance Bureau revealed that it is planning to sell off the Japanese government-owned and uninhabited Mitsuko Island in the Seto Inland Sea, about a kilometer off the coast of Hiroshima Prefecture.
According to the newspaper Mainichi, this auction is the first of its kind in Japan!
The sale will include all unused assets and the tender bids for the island will start in February. The island is made of two islands on the southwest of the city of Kure.
The northern island is up for sale and has around 7,600 square meters of real estate area.
Back in the day before World War II, the island actually housed a naval hospital but now it's just overgrown with weeds and trees.
