Giorgio Armani Buys Historic Manhattan Penthouse for $17.5 Million
December 20, 2019 - Manhattan
John Legere, the chief executive of T-Mobile US, has sold his Manhattan penthouse to Giorgio Armani for $17.5 million.
Located at 91 Central Park West, the 3,000-square-foot, 4-bedroom apartment was designed with a distinctive church-like look.
Built in 1929, the unit still retains much intricate original detailing. It was designed by renowned architectural firm Schwartz and Gross, whose other notable works include the Mark Hotel and several other prestigious residential buildings along Fifth and Park avenues.
In recent years, contemporary architectural design firm SheltonMindel reimagined and remodeled parts of the space, giving it a modern update. The result is a neo-Renaissance style with Beaux Arts elements, according to the listing.
There is intricate woodwork, stained glass windows, a carved Elizabethan oak fireplace and a handcrafted wooden bar.It also has 1,700 square feet of terrace space overlooking Central Park.
Mr. Armani is already a resident of the building. His similarly sized apartment shares a floor with the one owned by Mr. Legere. This purchase will allow him to take over the entire floor.
