" House of the year "
November 11, 2009 - Melbourne
The klein bottle house by mcbride charles ryan, have won the award for world's best home at this year's world architecture festival awards, Designboom reports.
Located in the town of Rye, just outside Melbourne, Australia, the holiday home features a living room perched on a canopy of trees, and celebrates the country's traditional beach houses, while still functioning as a practical and useful 21st century home.
The architects wanted to break free from the typical straight-angled housing enclosure. They wanted this holiday house to be more about fun, a break from the monotony daily routine.
Rethinking the volumes in three dimensions, they stretched and distorted all the facets of the house, producing slopes and angles that create unique visual experience through spatial intersections, incidents and accidents.
It is made from concrete sheets and black metal, which are both folded and twisted to create the multitude of angles.
The result is a unique project where you would expect the unexpected.
