Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe buys $5.7 million New York house
October 21, 2009 - New York
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has extended his property portfolio after buying a town house in New York worth nearly $5.7 million.
Radcliffe's first New York purchase was two years ago - a $5.2 million fifth-floor apartment in the SoHo district.
With five bedrooms, Radcliffe's new town house on West 12th Street measures 3,000sq ft and was apparently built 162 years ago by a sea captain.
The 3,000-square-foot property comes with six fireplaces and a balcony that overlooks a 39-foot-long backyard.
The Sotheby's listing has been pulled from the brokerage's website, but it's currently preserved in a cached form:
This lovingly renovated townhouse is one of three adjoining homes built by a sea captain in 1847 for his three daughters.
The property is on one of New York's most picturesque tree-lined landmark cobblestone blocks: West 12th Street, between Greenwich and Washington Streets. The 18 plus-foot-wide house faces South, and is soaked in sunlight throughout the day. The sizeable open garden and backyard is cooled by beautiful old trees and landscaping.
The ground floor hosts a separate one bedroom apartment with a wood burning fireplace and a picture window facing the garden. It can easily be rented to produce income.
The main residence spans three floors with a living room, dining room, kitchen, powder room, 4 bedrooms, three baths, a balcony overlooking the garden, and 6 working fireplaces. This is a must-see for anyone looking for a townhouse in a prime West Village location, close to the meatpacking district and the new High Line park.
It's not clear if the actor's moving to the West Village, or, like the apartment he bought at 40 Mercer, if the house will be an investment.
But whereas that condo was put on the market for $20,000 per month right after it was bought, the house, between Greenwich and Washington streets, is not available for rent.
