June 30, 2009 - Samana, Las Terrenas
Terrazas De Coson aims to show the world's elite how to live luxury with a smaller footprint.
Hidden on the hills of Samana next to the city of Las Terrenas in the Dominican Republic, this project consists of 72 villa estates that unfold over varied elevations and afford sweeping views of the ocean and surrounding mountains.
The project aims to heighten the interplay between the natural environments and built up structures, employing the latest eco-friendly construction techniques and materials without compromising comfort.
Villa designs come courtesy of Mexico's GVA Architects and answer to each particular setting on the hillside.
Residences will run on solar energy and will feature curved, energy-efficient garden roofs that diminish environmental impact. Ranging from 600 sqm to 1,040 sqm, the homes employ an orchestra of glass, stainless steel, iron and stone.
Patios and terraces of teak and cumaru wood, rustic marble and coralline comprise outdoor living spaces, while interior surfaces feature coral, pizarro and marble.
Pools, waterfalls and streams wind throughout the tropical homes, furthering the natural ambiance and acting as radiant cooling mechanisms, while residents enjoy indoor and outdoor showers, plunge pools and glass wall infinity pools.
In addition to the estates, Terrazas de Coson will feature a five-star boutique hotel with 28 bungalows.
The project aims to provide both residents and guests with an extensive collection of conveniences such as indoor and outdoor bars, a tennis club, a private beach club and spa, and several restaurants, including a five-star eatery headed by world renowned Chef Christophe Leroy.
The balmy climate and warm breezes on the Samana Peninsula are also ideal for the pursuit of outdoor adventures.
With its own heliport, Terrazas de Coson also hopes to be easily accessible while upholding the privacy it promises.
The project is central to six airports, including the new El Catey International Airport which is only 15 minutes away, and is scheduled for completion in 2010.
