The Project :
It’s an impressive old building in Jaffa Port, refurbished and restored by architect Ilan Pivko. It was built in 1,100 BC and during the works original domes and kurkar walls (type of calcareous sandstone) were preserved, in addition to modern elements.
"The most exciting issue in this project, and it's also what I like in Jaffa, is that I live with history," said Pivko in one of his interviews.
"During the work a large marble cannonball was discovered, the size of a football, which proved that ships of a certain type used to dock here in the port. At the entrance to the building, there is a sign in ancient Armenian dedicated to the Armenian Church in 1556. This place has existed for more than 3,000 years and it's a great feeling to live there today. There is no chance of living in such a site in most places in the world."
