Description

History
The original Bathford House (also known as Rectory House) stood behind what are now high walls, was directly opposite St. Swithins Church. It was built "from new" by John Tyndale in 1686 a year after the death of Charles II in a style similar to that of the west wing of Dyrham House, though on a smaller scale. It was almost certainly the first large custom-built house in Bathford not to follow the traditional Cotswold Vernacular style. Over succeeding generations of the Tyndale family up to 1800 and then the Wiltshires of Shockerwick the house was slightly enlarged, but appears to have been otherwise largely unaltered until Victorian times.

On the 29th of November 1913, as graphically described in the Bath Chronicle, the old Bathford House was destroyed by a fire so fierce that only the walls remained. No one was hurt. In the aftermath and the period that followed, the property changed hands several times. The original stable block (now next door) was converted into the "new" Bathford House.

D'Oro House as it stands today is a stunning, contemporary house that was constructed on the site of the original Bathford House. Having been one of the finest houses in the area for 227 years, just over a century after it was destroyed, another architectural masterpiece crafted in the principle of the golden ratio stands in its place.
