Xaghra is located in the North East part of Gozo, close to Ramla Bay (Gozo's most popular sandy beach), It is the third largest town in Gozo, having a population of around 4,500 people. The town took its name from "Xaghret l-Ghazzenin" which means the "land of the lazy ones" It is a quiet town though probably one of Gozo’s oldest, as it is home to the prehistoric temples of Ggantija, the Xag?ra Stone Circle, as well as Xerri's Grotto and Ninu's Cave.
