San Isidro belongs to the Province of Heredia, located 8 kilometers northeast of the City of Heredia. It limits to the north with the canton of Heredia (Vara Blanca district), to the east with the cantons of Vázquez de Coronado and Moravia (both in the Province of San José), to the south with the canton of Santo Domingo, to the southwest with the canton of San Pablo and to the west with the canton of San Rafael. It is located 1,360 meters above sea level, with a total area of 26.96 km². and temperatures that oscillate between 15ºC and 25ºC depending on the altitude.
"Saca de agua" as it was called in colonial times for its underground aquifers that provide abundant water to its neighbors. This was the land of the Indian chief, the Yorustí cacique.
Located 1,300 meters above sea level, the head of the San José district is the community of San Josecito, which has the neighborhoods of Santa Cruz and Santa Elena. Route 32 that connects the Central Valley with the Costa Rican Caribbean region crosses a large part of the canton of San Isidro which has allowed a greater development of the canton as well as a faster communication between San Isidro and the city of San José.
Coffee, livestock and vegetable planting are the main economic activities in the area, in addition to tomatoes and ornamental plants.
