Location

Stiffkey is a pretty Norfolk coastal village between Wells-next-the-Sea and Blakeney. The village is famous for its 'Stewkey Blues', a local blue cockle and has a renowned pub, The Red Lion, which has recently become one of the dining destinations on the coast, serving real ale and excellent food. Also within the village is the popular ‘Stiffkey Stores’ comprising a general store and coffee shop as well as selling plants and lifestyle interiors. The village is very well placed for the famous North Norfolk Coast with The Stiffkey marshes give access to Blakeney Point, the village and coastline are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is excellent sailing at various points along the coast, a plethora of restaurants and pubs in the area, seal trips at both Morston and Blakeney and a network of coastal walks through the marshes and beaches with renowned bird watching.

Holt (approximately 7 miles) is famous for its boutique shopping, Byfords delicatessen, good restaurants and pubs, art galleries, crafts shops and antique show rooms. The town has further specialist and everyday shopping, private and state education, and banking and health facilities within the town.

Description

Mole cottage could be the definition of a Norfolk coastal village cottage, built of brick and flint that’s synonymous with the area, with pretty dormer windows, private gardens, and stylish interiors. There are coastline walks directly from your door in one direction, and river valley walks in the other, both could be via the hugely popular Stiffkey stores for a warming coffee or sugar boosting pastry, or ending at the Red Lion pub for a pint of Barsham Ale and Lobster. It has the lot.

The house has been renovated with subtle effectiveness. Each space has been carefully considered to make sure everywhere has a function. A great example of this is the kitchen/breakfast room, an open plan double aspect room, with an central original chimney breast creating a partial divide. The modish kitchen space is lovely, by Neptune, with the bespoke colour sitting well with the mellow brick flooring. This flows into the dining area, with the combination being the ideal space for entertaining and converging on. A comfortable and cosy sitting room is complete with woodburner, bespoke cabinetry, and French doors out to the garden. A long utility room, with Neptune cabinetry, is essential for coastal living. In a wing of the cottage is the principal bedroom, a spacious room, with a well fitted bath/shower room. The first floor provides a further two double bedrooms, with an en suite shower room, and en suite bathroom, again another great use of space.

The house has excellent interiors, with Colefax and Fowler curtains, carefully chosen wallpapers, together with Nest heating system for modern convenience.

Gardens and Grounds
Unlike many village cottages, Mole Cottage is one with plenty of outside space to enjoy, with a bit of a surprise to boot. Firstly, there is plenty of parking, for cars and boats, on a gravelled drive at the front of the house with brick and flint boundary walls, and includes a useful garage space. That peace of mind of always having a parking space in a coastal village can not be underestimated.

The gardens are predominantly behind the house. An initial patio area is a brilliant suntrap adjoining the house, with south to west orientation and ideal for outside dining, or a peaceful gin and tonic. Steps lead up to an expanse of lawn, entirely enclosed. A slope leads up to a picket gate, which opens to a long meadow, sweeping away from the house and bringing another dimension to life at Mole Cottage. The added surprise is the wonderful views from the meadow, out over the Stiffkey Valley and the village below, and it’s a glorious spot to take in the famous Norfolk sky and its sunsets.
