The neighbouring villages of North Wheatley and South Wheatley have an active community, with a village hall in South Wheatley, a parish church in North Wheatley and several other amenities, including a primary school, a local shop, a bakery and café, a tennis club, bowls club and a cricket club.

The village lies between the towns of Retford and Gainsborough, both of which offer a wider choice of amenities and leisure facilities, including supermarkets, high street shops and a choice of schools.
