Situated at the edge of the Cotswolds, between Oxford and Cirencester, Bampton is sometimes described as a town because it was an important market town until the 19th century. Today it is designated a village, which boasts both an Italianate Victorian Town Hall and a village hall. Also renowned as the historic home of Morris dancing, the picturesque location was more recently featured as the fictional village of Downton in Downton Abbey.

With an active community enjoying numerous clubs and events, amenities in Bampton include a Coop mini-supermarket, butcher and deli, three pubs, two coffee shops, hairdresser and Post Office. It also has a primary school, doctor's surgery with pharmacy and a public library. More extensive facilities are found in facilities in Witney, Faringdon, Oxford and Cheltenham.

Directions

From Oxford take the A40 towards Cheltenham, exiting on the A415 towards Abingdon. By-passing Ducklington, take the right turn to Aston. In Aston turn right on the A4449 to Bampton. On arriving in Bampton keep right onto the High Street and Grange Cottage is found on the left. If you go past the Morris Clown pub you have gone too far.
