Welcome to something Scenic Drive, Tarrytown’s most coveted street, has never seen. Designed and built by architect and builder Tina Contros in close collaboration with the homeowner, this residence reflects an extraordinary level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Moments from Lake Austin, completely private, and fully turnkey, it sits beneath a canopy of heritage live oaks. From the street it is quietly unassuming, its wood-clad exterior set to silver gracefully over time. Inside and out back, though, it is a showstopper: a modern timber oasis with cantilevered rooms that seem to float among the trees.Step through either custom steel entry door and the light takes over. Western Window Systems windows and doors make the home nearly 50% glass, so sun moves across French oak floors and Calacatta Viola marble. Details include Forbes & Lomax switches and Sonos sound indoors and out. The kitchen is outfitted with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, a speed oven, a wine fridge, and beverage drawers, and it is softened by warm cabinetry that echoes the oaks. A full bar, a long dining table, and a living room with pitched ceilings and a striking fireplace all open to the patio and the private grounds beyond.Out back, flat, secluded lawn meets professionally landscaped native plantings and modern steel planters, served by irrigation and well water. At the center is a sculptural circle pool and a separate oversized square spa, both controlled by smartphone with a heater and chiller for year-round use. This is a setting made for quiet mornings and long evenings under the oaks. The primary suite is a moody, serene retreat, with dark walls framing lake-facing windows. Its bath has a Calacatta Viola soaking tub, a separate shower, and two vanities, and it opens into a closet with custom millwork. On its own level, a second en suite bedroom with an expansive bath could easily serve as a second primary. Two more bedrooms share a bath wrapped in cactus wallpaper and soapstone, and one of them is used as an office. A second dedicated office sits in a private nook at the front of the home. Downstairs, a second living and media room with a kitchenette is joined by a pop-culture powder bath and an en suite guest room. Across a separate patio, a studio suite plumbed for a kitchenette adapts to whatever life calls for. It also has an efficient Hitachi HVAC system, a two-car garage, and full-height storage beneath the house complete the practical details, while space to park a boat keeps Lake Austin days close at hand.Unassuming from the street and unforgettable within, this is a rare chance to own a true original on Tarrytown’s most sought-after street.
