Location

Spade Oak Reach is a private no-through road adjoining open countryside within close proximity of the village of Cookham. It is situated below Winter Hill, part of the National Trust-preserved Cookham Commons.

The commons, including Cock Marsh, provide excellent walking and stunning elevated views over the river. Cookham is set within glorious rolling countryside in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are scenic walks along the Thames Path and within the surrounding woodland, with golf, football, cricket and rugby clubs nearby.

There are three primary schools and three nursery schools situated in Cookham, with a comprehensive range of private and state schooling options in the area include Sir William Borlase's Grammar School, Beaconsfield High School, Eton, Harrow, Wycombe Abbey, Caldicot Preparatory School and some excellent schools in the Maidenhead, Marlow and Henley area.

Cookham is delightfully rural, yet perfectly positioned for access to both Marlow and Maidenhead where you will find a more extensive mix of bars, cafés and restaurants, as well as an eclectic range of local independent and national retailers.

For commuters, Cookham has a train station with a service to Paddington (via Maidenhead) in as little as 31 minutes, with an Elizabeth Line connection into central London from Maidenhead. The M40 and M4 motorways are easily accessible via the A404(M).

Description

Situated in one of the area's most sought-after locations, Ferry Cottage was built in the late 1800s and subsequently used as a ferryman's cottage, to serve the foot ferry crossing the river from Coldmoorholme Lane.

It is situated in an outstanding position, directly onto the river with wonderful views up-stream and down-stream. In addition, the views to the other side stretch far over the surrounding farmland and up to Winter Hill, providing a lovely backdrop.

Ferry Cottage is situated at the end of a private lane accessed only by residents of Spade Oak Reach, in splendid isolation with beautiful views on all sides. The secluded setting on the banks of the river feels surprisingly private as the Thames Path runs along the opposite bank. Surrounding the house there are mature, lawned gardens enclosed by fencing, mature trees and hedges, and a gravel terrace with ample parking accessed via the lane. On the river side of the house there is a paved terrace with space for garden furniture, a summerhouse and a number of flowerbeds. At the water’s edge, a private mooring has room for a large pleasure craft.

Directions

From Cookham train station head west through the village and, at the village limit, turn right onto Bradcutts Lane. Follow the road for 0.7 miles and then bear left onto Winter Hill. Turn right onto Stone House Lane and then immediately right again onto Spade Oak Reach. Follow the lane all the way to the end, where Ferry Cottage can be found on the riverfront.
