In 1897, plans were drawn up for the construction of a new artillery barracks with an officers' mess, and construction began in 1900. From 1903, the 1st Battalion of the 14th Foot Artillery Regiment occupied the barracks. The garrison was disbanded in 1918. After the Second World War, French armed forces used the area ("Quartier Vauban"). The building structures were largely preserved, making the ensemble an outstanding example of military architecture from the Imperial era. The urban layout, the associated open spaces, and the functional designations such as the parade ground, parade ground, and barracks buildings are particularly striking.
