Description

Tucked away behind a gated gravelled driveway is the enchanting Emery House. Originally a cottage surrounded by market gardens and orchards with some notable previous custodians. In 2011, having fallen into disrepair and a dilapidated state, the cottage was transformed by the current owners into this unique home. Now providing unusually lateral living space arranged over only two floors, the house has been extended and re-furbished to be compliant with current building regulations and provide a comfortable, contemporary family home. The roof, and all of the windows were replaced in 2011 and it is fully insulated to modern standards yet retains a distinct period impression. The design was informed by many of the surrounding buildings, in particular the lead covered porch and arched Venetian windows, a nod to the architectural aesthetic of the area. Once the tall double gates are shut, the London scene changes to the gravel driveway leading to a house that might be mistaken as a farmhouse in the countryside with gardens surrounding the three sides. The gardens are left to enjoy more natural setup with wild flowers that joyfully welcome the spring and summer seasons.
