Loscombe Down enjoys the most wonderful rural setting in a valley amid some of the finest countryside in the County.

Locally, there are a variety of excellent leisure and sporting pursuits including water sports at Weymouth, walking and riding in the unspoilt countryside, with easy access at Abbotsbury to Chesil Beach on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO world heritage site and its stunning South West coastal path; Golf at Dorchester Came Down and Bridport golf clubs, hunting with the South Dorset and Cattistock Hunts.

The county town of Dorchester is about 5 miles to the north east and provides an excellent range of facilities including shops, restaurants and pubs, several supermarkets including a large and a small Waitrose.

The recently developed brewery, known as Brewery Square, provides a popular Plaza, Odeon Cinema and restaurants including Cote Brasserie and Waggamamas.

On Wednesdays there is a weekly market.

The seaside towns of Weymouth (10 miles) and Bridport (12 miles) are also easily accessible.

Communications in the area include a regular train service from Dorchester to London Waterloo taking just over two and half hours and access onto the A354 providing a north/south route and the A35 providing an east/west link.

Bournemouth International Airport has flights to an increasing number of European destinations.

The area is well served for schooling both state and private. State schools include The Thomas Hardye and Middle Schools in Dorchester. Public schools including Sherborne School, Sherborne School for Girls, Leweston, Bryanston, Canford, Milton Abbey and Clayesmore School. Loscombe Down originally built in 1967 although it has been significantly upgraded in recent years. Directions

From Dorchester take the A35 westwards towards Bridport. After about 4 miles as you enter the village of Winterbourne Abbas turn left signed Abbotsbury and Portesham. Proceed over the staggered crossroads towards Portesham and after about 1 mile on the left hand side there is a sign for Loscombe Farm. Turn into this track and follow the signs to Loscombe Down. Pass the farm buildings on your right and Loscombe Down is found a few yards further on behind a traditional five bar gate.
