The tiny village of Westborough occupies a peaceful yet convenient setting between the towns of Newark (approx. 7.5 miles) and Grantham (approx. 11.2 miles), and moments from local amenities at Long Bennington (approx. 1.8 miles). The village has a parish church and a village hall, while Long Bennington offers local shops, restaurants, and cafés, as well as a primary school. Newark provides access to a wealth of shopping, supermarkets, leisure, and cultural facilities, including the Palace Theatre and Newark Castle, as well as extensive schooling, including the independent Highfields School.

The area is well connected, with the A1 approx. 2.6 miles away and a further network of A-roads accessible. Mainline rail services are available from Newark and Grantham, providing direct services to London Kings Cross.

Description

The Old Rectory is a grand Grade II* listed residence dating from the 16th century, with later additions from the 17th and 18th centuries. It displays splendid red brick elevations with ashlar dressings and more than 6,000 square feet of characterful accommodation, enriched by numerous period details.

The Old Rectory is approached by a flight of steps leading up to the raised ground floor where the central reception hall welcomes you with its elegant carved staircase rising to a galleried landing above and an ornate panelled plaster ceiling. The principal drawing and dining rooms, both opening from the hall, feature tall sash windows with original shutters, ornate cornicing, ceiling roses, open fireplaces, beautiful chandeliers and a sunny southern outlook over the main garden. The west wing includes a study with flagstone flooring and exposed timber beam, while to the rear lies a music or sitting room. The east wing consists of a rear staircase to all floors, kitchen fitted with bespoke wooden cabinetry and integrated appliances, a utility and breakfast room offering space for storage and informal dining, with an internal corridor leading to the annexe.
