Michigan is the Midwest home of motors and Motown in the Great Lakes region of America.
The capital is Lansing but its biggest and most famous city is Detroit, still synonymous with the automotive industry to this day. The revitalised Lafayette Park area – with buildings designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe – is a landscaped area hub of modern high-rise living and a younger generation of entrepreneurs are helping to forge a new future for this city.
Yet it is beyond both Lansing and Detroit where you’ll find Michigan’s real marvels. High quality mansions looking out over Lake Superior – in the upper of the state’s two peninsulas - attract the biggest price tags, and for good reason. Granot Loma – a 1920s 26,000 square foot log mansion – recently went on the market for $40 million.
Holland, meanwhile, on the southern peninsula, is home to a number of mansions that make the most of its position overlooking Lake Michigan while further up the coast Charlevoix is a beautiful boating resort with picturesque properties to match.
Inland, Oakland County is among the ten most affluent counties in the US, with West Bloomfield and Bloomfield Hills catering for buyers after a spot of high end luxury. The Bloomfield Township, within Bloomfield Hills, is known for its fine properties, private lakes and stunning scenery – making it one of the most expensive and sought-after addresses in the whole state.
