Location

Medmenham is delightfully rural yet perfectly positioned for access to both Marlow and Henley-on-Thames, being 3.5 miles and 4.5 miles respectively.

The towns of Marlow and Henley offer an eclectic mix of local independent and national retailers. There are numerous bars, cafes and restaurants around the towns suited for any occasion. Both towns are situated on the banks of the River Thames and the Thames Path follows the river through the towns.

Just outside the town centres, the area opens out to glorious rolling countryside and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Outdoor pursuits are numerous, as are golf, football, cricket and rugby clubs. For commuters, both towns have train stations to Paddington (via Maidenhead and/or Twyford) and the M40 and M4 motorways are accessed from the A404(M) which pass the towns. A comprehensive range of private and state schooling options in the area include Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, Eton, Harrow, Wycombe Abbey, Caldicot Preparatory School and some excellent schools in the Maidenhead and Henley area.

Description

Gillmans Cottage is a Grade II-listed character building constructed in the 17th century, with a charming appearance of whitewashed walls set under a tiled roof. The cottage sits behind the village pub in its own plot and has been converted into six separate luxury en suite bedrooms, used as accommodation for the pub. The cottage was named after a local French-speaking priest and was itself a former alehouse, and many character features remain including exposed beams and wood floors. The conversion has been done to a high standard and each room is individually outfitted; the bath and shower rooms are particularly luxurious and are appointed with Villeroy & Boch sanitaryware.

There is excellent scope to develop the cottage back into a sole residence, subject to obtaining the necessary permissions.

The cottage is set in an elevated position behind a charming picket fence and has excellent kerb appeal. Directions

From Marlow town centre head southwest out of the town along Henley Road (A4155) for about three miles. The village of Medmenham is clearly signposted, with the property positioned in a elevated position just before the Dog & Badger public house.
