Inveraray is a classic 18th century planned town that was built on the site of an early fishing village by the 3rd Duke of Argyll. There are a number of specialist shops, cafés and restaurants (including the Samphire Seafood restaurant) which sell mainly locally sourced produce – perhaps the most popular being The George Hotel which also hosts live entertainment at the weekend.
