The Pole House exudes unique charm and character, ideally located near the beautiful beaches of the north coast, with St Ives and Penzance just a short distance further west.

Nestled within stunning gardens that are integral to its design, the property was crafted by the renowned local architect Barrie Briscoe. The house beautifully blends oriental influences with a distinct western style. The main living areas connect to the garden via a timber bridge at the front, while a staircase at the rear leads to a wide deck that fully encircles the home.

The Pole House is arranged across several levels, with most of the living space situated on the upper floor. The open-plan main living room features a striking double-height ceiling framed by the sturdy wooden poles central to the home's design, creating a dramatic focal point. This spacious area includes a sitting room and a kitchen with a wood-burning stove as a central feature. Toward the rear, there are two bedrooms.

Upstairs, the landing offers an excellent viewpoint overlooking the living space below. The master bedroom occupies the entire first floor, offering a spacious sleeping area, an en suite bathroom.

The lower level, accessible via an external entrance functions as a self-contained apartment, ideal for guests. This space includes an open living area that also serves as a bedroom, and a bathroom featuring a Japanese bath. Additionally, there is a utility room and a separate storage area, perfect for bikes and surfing gear.

The gardens surrounding the house are peaceful and thoughtfully designed, providing a serene retreat perfect for unwinding after a day at the beach.

The Pole house was owned by Kate Winslett during the early 2000's who fell in love with the unique charm of the house.

Japanese Pole Houses, traditionally known as Kura or stilted dwellings, are characterised by their elevated structures supported on wooden poles. This design serves multiple purposes: it protects the home from moisture and pests, allows airflow beneath the building to help regulate temperature, and provides resilience against flooding. The architectural style often incorporates natural materials and emphasizes harmony with the surrounding environment, blending functionality with aesthetic simplicity. The Pole House's design draws inspiration from these principles, combining practical elevation with distinctive visual appeal.

Directions

Travel westwards on the A30 towards Hayle and follow signs for the retail park. At the mini roundabout turn left and follow into the pretty village of Angarrack. After about 150 yards turn left into Steamers Meadow and the Pole house will be found on the left.
