Once the home and studio of master printer Hugh Stoneman, Orchard Flower Farm began as a modest cottage before the current owners reimagined it with architect Barrie Briscoe. His sensitive redesign unites old and new, adding a raised timber extension inspired by Stoneman’s Islington workshop, a glazed conservatory that captures morning light, and a broad terrace overlooking landscaped grounds that fall towards Chyandour Brook.

Inside, the house blends rustic charm with a calm, natural aesthetic. The original cottage now contains a generous living and dining area with flagstone and parquet floors, low-beamed ceilings and an aga forming the home’s warm heart. Beyond lies a bright kitchen opening to a voluminous sunroom that reaches toward the gardens. Upstairs are two expansive bedrooms with dressing rooms and a family bathroom.

The timber wing unfolds in two parts: one includes a dramatic double-height gallery space, a bedroom, utility room and showroom; the other is a fully self-contained studio apartment with a mezzanine bedroom, bathroom and open-plan kitchen and living area. Once a busy printmaker’s workspace, it is now a tranquil haven with wall-to-wall glass.
