Elie is in the East Neuk of Fife, famed for its picturesque fishing villages and unspoilt beaches. St Andrews, 'the home of golf' and the setting for one of Britain's oldest universities, is only 13 miles away. There are traditional links golf courses at nearby Crail, Leven and Lundin Links and new courses at Kingsbarns and St Andrews Bay. Dumbarnie and Charleton golf courses are also very close by.

Edinburgh is around 42 miles away accessed by road, or from the nearest train stations at Markinch 14 miles, and Levenmouth 9 miles and Leuchars which is 16 miles.

49 High Street is entered directly from the pavement into a small vestibule between the exterior double doors and inner doors, leading into a central hallway.
